Bruce Lee’s Wisdom & Philosophy

bruceleebloodadulttee_2_114811_yellow_mAlthough Bruce Lee is best known as a martial artist, he also studied drama and philosophy. He was well-read and had an extensive library. His own books on martial arts and fighting philosophy are known for their philosophical assertions both inside and outside of martial arts circles.

His eclectic philosophy often mirrored  his fighting beliefs, though he was quick to claim that his martial arts were solely a metaphor for such teachings. He believed that any knowledge ultimately led to self-knowledge, and said that his chosen method of self-expression was martial arts.

Notice that stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind?

If you want to succeed in life, you need to be more like the bamboo or the willow. Be open-minded and embrace change. By refusing to be flexible, you are most definitely shunning away any room for growth.

Say your company has been taken over by a new management with new policies. Are you really going to raise hell over the change just because you refuse to adapt; or do you want to keep your job? Don’t let your stubbornness get in the way.

Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.
It is the result of long and patient effort in self-control.

Two Helpful Indicators

Just as a recovering patient continually checks particular readings which indicate the extent of progress in his health, the spiritual seeker too would have to fall back on certain 'tests' and 'checklists' which would serve to quantify the progress attained thus far.

EDITOR'S note:

THIS letter, written by Vietnamese immigrant Ha Minh Thanh working in  Fukushima as a policeman to a friend in Vietnam , was posted on New America Media on March 19. It is a testimonial to the strength of the Japanese spirit, and an interesting slice of life near the epicenter of  Japan's crisis at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. It was translated by NAM editor Andrew Lam, author of "East Eats West: Writing in Two Hemispheres." Shanghai Daily condensed it.

Let life inspire you

Let life inspire you. No matter what happens, you can choose
To be inspired by it.
If you make a mistake, let it inspire you to be more careful
And diligent next time. When you're having a great time, let
It inspire you to create even more positive experiences.
Each time you see kindness, be inspired to pass it forward.
If you encounter deception or injustice, feel inspired to
Raise your world above it.
Anything can inspire you when you choose to let it. You can
Even be inspired for no reason at all.
Be inspired by the big accomplishments and by the small,
Simple moments as well. An inspired life is a life that's
Rich, and it's a life you can choose no matter what.
If there's a reason to be inspired or if there is not, be
Inspired. Bring your spirit fully to life, and raise your
Life to a higher, more enriching level.

The mind is meant to absorb information, transform it into knowledge and lead it into action. Action and speech determine the quality of our life and these come from the mind itself.

To Continue or to Stop

There comes a time when the pain of continuing exceeds the pain of stopping. At that moment, a threshold is crossed. What seemed unthinkable becomes thinkable. Slowly, the realization emerges that the choice to continue what you have been doing is the choice to live in discomfort, and the choice to stop what you have been doing is the choice to breathe deeply and freely again. Once that realization has emerged, you can either honor it or ignore it, but you cannot forget it. What has become known can not become unknown again.

Progress paradox relates to the matter that why people are not able to feel happy though the aspects of life are improving? In fact, the people are feeling miserable than ever. Winning And Losing

Winning and losing are a part of life. They are two sides of the same coin. Winning and losing come in cycles; neither is permanent. Today's victor is tomorrow's or yesterday's loser. And today's loser might well be the champion next year or the next. While we are fully aware of this, we continue to crave for victory and live in dread of losing, although we know in our heart of hearts that one is invariably followed, with the passage of time, by the other.
